This is Why Buyers Are Leaving eBay!

After 12+ years on eBay, I just ran into the absolute rudest seller I’ve ever experienced. The seller’s username is ‘legendaryautographs’ and I recently purchased a signed photo from them for a customer that needed it as a Christmas gift. In fairness, the photo was great and the shipping was very fast. However, the photo was placed in a soft page holder and was put inside an envelope, inside a priority box with no padding. Unfortunately, the box arrived completely crushed and the photo was slightly damaged.

Despite this, I still left the seller positive feedback but did mention the poor packaging. Shortly thereafter, I noticed an email had come through from this seller. I expected it to be a “sorry you weren’t happy with the packaging” email, to which I would have replied, “No big deal. You may just want to use a hard holder next time or include some padding in the box”. Imagine my surprise when instead it was a somewhat rude email questioning why I would object to their packaging.

I explained to them my issues with his packaging job and that the photo had arrived damaged. I also told them that we were able to somewhat flatten the bends in the photo and the customer was OK with the item even with the slight damage. A few minutes later, I received another reply from ‘legendaryautographs’. Again, I was expecting an apology email. Again, I was disappointed. This time, the seller insisted they HAD sent it in a hard toploader, accused me of being a liar and lamented the fact that, “Some people just can’t be pleased”.

I tried one last time to explain to him that the photo arrived in a SOFT holder and that it was slightly damaged. Each email ‘legendaryautographs’ sent after that was ruder and more offensive. Maybe they were just having a bad day, but if this is how they regularly treat their customers, I can’t imagine how they’re still in business. It’s no wonder buyers continue to leave eBay in droves.

Two High Profile eBay Auctions Go Unpaid

FILES-US-CINEMA-OFFBEAT-MARILYN MONROE

A crypt above Marilyn Monroe’s grave recently sold on eBay for over $4.6 million! It was sold by an elderly woman hoping to use the proceeds to pay her mortgage. Unfortunately, the winning bidder refused to pony up the money.

On a related note, a mom from Arkansas auctioned off the naming rights to her unborn son on eBay. She was hoping to raise $25,000 to pay her bills but the auction closed for only a little over $6,000. Once again, the high bidder failed to pay.

Unfortunately, this is an all-too-common experience for the average seller on eBay. With these high-profile auctions, eBay banned the non-paying high bidders for life. Unfortunately, they do not do the same for the average seller. For average sellers, non-payers can renege time and again with little-to-no consequences. This is a problem eBay could easily fix but chooses not to. Unfortunately, eBay makes a great deal of money off of fees from unpaid auctions so they have very little incentive to make this problem a priority.
