Obama Approval Rating Drops Below 50%

President Obama

According to today’s Rasmussen Poll, President Obama’s approval rating has dropped below 50% for the first time with a 49% approval rating. Most concerning for the administration is he’s garnering only 37% approval among Independents. Rasmussen was the most accurate pollster in the 2008 presidential election (PDF file).

According to USA Today, President Obama’s approval rating at the six month point of his presidency ranks him 10th out of the last 12 presidents above only Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton. According to the polls, Mr. Obama’s approval ratings are being dragged down by falling support for his economic and health care policies, as well as the rising deficits.

The article cautions that low 6 month approval ratings are a poor indication of future election chances, but they can slow down or derail a president’s legislative agenda.
